What you guys are trying to do is great. I've been to Pet Rescue and I've been disgusted to say the least. They wont even let you in the cat sanctuary unless you're planning to adopt (doesn't that say something?). Is there a petition out there to close down this facility? If there isn't, there should definitely be one!
That's an interesting idea. The question is: Who are you suggesting we petition?
Under the Illinois Animal Welfare Act, the authority for licensing animal shelters (and pet stores, boarding kennels) is granted to the Illinois Department of Agriculture. This government agency has the power to revoke or suspend licensure of an animal shelter. The Department can't shut down a shelter because of a petition; only violations of the Animal Welfare Act are grounds for such an action. Even then, the shelter is given procedural due process--notice and a hearing. This is why we've been providing specific complaints to the Department regarding violations.
I am happy and sad to see this. Happy the word is out...sad to see it is STILL going on! I was involved a few years back with a group trying to get them to clean-up or shut down. What will it Take?
The fact that Dale and Penny do not look at these pictures, their facilities and their own living conditions and realize that they have severe mental problems and voluntarily close Pet Rescue down is disturbing enough. However, I must point out that clearly these two "women" have mental problems which cause them to continually abuse animals while purporting to save their lives. What is the excuse offered by the State of Illinois? The Bloomingdale Police? The Department of Agriculture? Are they equally as disturbed? How anyone in their right mind can visit let alone "inspect" this hell hole, see these animals and hear horror story after horror story from employees and volunteers and CONTINUE to put the Illinois seal of approval on it is the most outrageous part of all of this.
