Calls Still Needed

It has been ONE MONTH since the DuPage County State's Attorney brought 15 criminal charges against Penny Horak, and yet the animals are STILL at Pet Rescue in deplorable conditions. In addition, and shockingly, even with limited resources to take care of the approximately 200 animals there, Penny continues to take in additional animals.

One month after the charges were brought, the animals are no better off, despite assurances from the State's Attorney's office.

Please phone DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett: 630-407-8000 and ask him to intervene. Leave a message for Birkett, Don't let them connect you with one of his staff attorneys.

Ask Birkett to show compassion for these animals suffering in cages, unable to receive any care or veterinary attention.

If a day care operator were charged with 15 criminal violations of neglect to children, the place would be shut down overnight. How does Pet Rescue remain in business?

I live less than a block from Pet Rescue, and at the age of 21 i attempted to adopt an animal from their facility. I walked in said i was looking for a dog, asked my age and the told i was too young. i was both disappointed and upset.
I was amazed given the obvious over crowding, and poor conditions that it was that simple to dismiss me, that they would rather keep these animals in cages filled with feces than bother to consider me as a prospective new home for one of their animals.
As i have driven past everyday for over twenty years I have seen volunteeres walking the dogs and I was hoping the situation had changed.
obviously I was wrong, since then i have adopted 3 dogs from other rescues or shelters, and honestly I never even attempted to go back there, knowing they would somehow find a reason that i was not fit to own a dog. I regret not trying to do more to help those animals, but i see now how much help they needed.
i would like to help, and i would like to know who is caring for the animals now. i hope its not too late for them, being less than a quarter mile away i could surely volunteer some walks or help do some cleaning.

I cannot believe this...my heart is broken. We adopted our 3 cats (Who are like children to us) from Pet Rescue. I had no idea. I mean I was in the building on numerous occasions and I can't believe how clueless I was. I feel like a fool and I am shocked and sickened by the pictures that you have posted of these poor animals. I just hope that they can be rescued from Pet "Rescue". Who is feeding them now?! I can't believe that they haven't been removed!!!

Oh man, I am just sick about this. Guess I have some phone calls to make on Monday. Hopefully it isn't too late for these poor babies.

I became aware of the crisis at Pet Rescue after meeting a volunteer and helping her with the extremely emaciated, half dead, FIV positive, and overall neglected cat she had adopted from Pet Rescue. ( BY the way he had been there for more than 6 years spreading the highly contagious fatal disease to the other cats.) With my Jaw on the floor I held back tears and then wanted justice. I listened to the horror stories and then had to see this hell for myself. I went several times to the "shelter" silently promising the animals I would not forget their suffering. I went along with family members and friends to the Bloomingdale police station and filed animal abuse reports. All of us did. Nothing happened. They continued to suffer. In my opinion there is some kind of cover up going on there.
The animals have found guardian angels in Sherri Travis and the unnamed volunteers that have come to their rescue. Dale and Penny have met their match. Dale and Penny if you are reading this shame on you! You disgust me I can only hope that you will one day be locked away in a dark basement and forgotten about.

I urge every one to stop in and see the horror themselves. Get angry and get moving. File police reports sign petitions and spread the word we need to help these animals. Why should they be any different from the dogs and cats at our feet and on our couches? They are no different. These animals are not throw-aways nor do they deserve this.
